This week in year 3 has been full of learning and fun.
In maths we have been learning to order, add and subtract fractions. We know that when adding and subtracting fractions the denominator does not change. For example 1/2 + 1/2 = 2/2 or 1 whole or 2/5 + 2/5 = 4/5. Next week we are moving on to our topic on time.
In english we have started our topic on the Romans. We are reading a book called ‘Escape from Pompeii’ about a boy called Tranio and his day to day life in a Roman town. We think that a volcano may erupt in the town and he will find a way of escaping with his friend Livia. We made predictions about the story and even wrote a diary entry as Tranio; imagining what sort of things he might see, hear and do in a typical roman town.
I spoke to the children to let them know I am going to be off for a couple of weeks as I am welcoming a new addition to my family. I will not be in school on Tuesday but will be back for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I will then be off from 13th May til half term.
Spellings next week again relate to our topic (some our the same as last week as we are using them again in our writing) and there is just one group of spellings for everyone to learn.
Have a great weekend!
